I've lived in Los Angeles for many years, but I've never been able to go to the Chinese New Year festival
in LA's Chinatown.  In fact, I've only been to Chinatown once and it was a very brief stay.  This year,
because of good weather and no schedule conflicts, I was finally able to attend this festival.  I was
amazed at the size of this event.  Since Lunar New Year is a very important event, it was not surprising
to see so many people here, but I didn't expect the sidewalks to be completely blocked at times.  I
managed to see the Golden Dragon Parade and was surprised to see how big it was.  For a festival like
this, the parade route was fairly long and was packed with onlookers for the entire route.  It was an
amazing spectacle filled with marching bands, lion dancers, personalities, dragons, martial artists, and
firecrackers.  I didn't have time to see much else, but my brief stay in Chinatown definitely piqued my
interest in this neighborhood.  It's one of the more vibrant ethnic neighborhoods that I've seen in Los
Angeles.  Perhaps I should visit more often.
