Conclusion
Especially in recent years, the problem with Pacific Media Expo has been it's consistency.  After six years, perhaps it's
finally beginning to stabilize.  This year's convention was definitely an improvement over the past two years.  Of course I
still miss major music acts performing, like TM Revolution and OLIVIA.  UchuSentai NOIZ is good, but they've played here
already.  Yes, this convention came very close to having Miyavi perform here is year, but really, coming close doesn't
count with a lot of people.  It shows that they're at least trying to bring in more recognizable performers.  People still come
to this convention for the concerts and it's really important to get acts that people will want to see.  Cosfest was bigger
than in previous years.  At any anime convention, cosplay seems to be an area that there is an increase in participation in
every year.  It's good to see more cosplayers participate in Cosfest.  I'm not a big fan of convention masquerade
competitions that take all night, but Cosfest was just the right size.

The surprise was how popular fashion was at this convention.  The fashion show was more popular than anybody
thought it would be and people come to this convention so they can buy the clothing.  It's a very unique opportunity.
Another big surprise was food.  The sake room sold out.  Some items from the snack room also sold very well.  I
definitely took advantage of the snack room.  The line for the Kogi BBQ truck was enormous and it looked like it was a hit.
I go to two conventions in this area each year and there are only a few reasonably priced restaurants in the area.  If you
give people some options other than Carl's Jr., Denny's, and overpriced hotel food, people will be grateful.

On the downside, it's still stuck at the LAX Hilton.  It's not one of my favorite convention locations. There's not a lot of
outdoor space here.  During the busiest times of the convention, being indoors in a crowd of people is not very
comfortable.  It's never been one of my favorite places to take cosplay photos either.  After every convention, a lot of
people look forward to seeing cosplay photos.  It's something I've been doing for many years, but at this convention I
ended up not taking any aside from the photos of Cosfest.  When it gets to densely packed, I become very unmotivated to
take photos. Then, you have to combine that with the fact that there are only a few picturesque locations here.  It's not a
good combination for me so I just left the job of cosplay photography to others.  I was too busy covering other things
anyway, but it would have been good to take a few more cosplay photos.  It also isn't very good as a concert venue.  It
never sounds very good.

With PMX, you always get a mixed bag.  Some things work.  Some things don't, but it seems to be heading in the right
direction.  It's growing again and in this economy, that's a good sign.  It's something that I'll look forward to seeing in
2010.  If anything, I'll be there covering the music program and other live events.  This is still a great convention for doing
those things.  Cosplay photos? I'm not too sure of, especially when I come to this location.

See you next year,
